An interesting fact about tonight's opponent, the Detroit Pistons:
They are bad.
How bad are they? Well, last year the played the Timberwolves twice and lost both times. That was LAST YEAR. With that said, the Wolves, I believe, are roughly 13.2% better than last season. By my half baked calculations that means the Wolves should win by somewhere between 14-18 points tonight.
I think it is getting to the point where, as a team, the Wolves and their fans should start to put together realistic goals or expectations for the season. While I think a NBA title is a little hopeful and a Western Conference Final birth might just be wishful thinking, a playoff birthday is closer to a statistical improbability than a drug induced pipe dream at this point. I think the Wolves should dream a little bit bigger than just making the playoffs though. I think there is one goal the Wolves should aim towards as a litmus test to best judge the season. One goal that would mean as much to Kevin McHale as it would mean to David Kahn. A goal that would finally let Minnesota fans that things are turning around. This year the goal should be for Minnesota to have a better record than the Celtics.
Do it for Gerald Green and Theo Ratliff's expiring contract. Do it for Ryan Gomes and Bassy. Do it for the first round draft pick that turned into Wayne Ellington and Al Jefferson. Don't do it for Jonny Flynn though. That guy stinks so bad he should be on the Pistons. Alright, you can do it for Jonny Flynn, too.

I'll be frank, guys: we're doing well with the Pledge Drive. If you plan on giving, please know that we're taking down the widget at the end of the week, so there's no better time than now. Thank you all!
Don't worry, be happy, pledge week is almost over.

Not much globe to span today. No games in the Puerto Rican or Australian Leagues, and none of the games in the Mexican or Venezuelan Leagues involved Twins players.

Movie of the Month: Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (2009, Masazuku Hashimoto)
Now here's something that isn't on your radar. Based on the mystery and puzzle-based videogame series starring the title character, this film was just recently released on DVD in the states, and I have to say the writing was a damn sight better than it is in the games.
In the games, you're propelled forward because of the challenge of the next puzzle - you can pretty much bail on the story, because try as you might to solve the mystery, the answer is going to be some stupid supernatural BS that was never on the table until that point and couldn't possibly be anticipated.
This movie, though, unravels its mysteries with more panache and begins with a Battle Royale-style (without the blood) smackdown between various puzzle solvers. The ending, admittedly, involves some pretty unlikely science, but the movie plays out like a big-budget action popcorn movie, so no harm done.
I once again mostly finished TV shows this month, or at least trudged forward. Battlestar has hit something of a lull, as has Twin Peaks (it's clear the producers were ill-prepared for life after Laura Palmer). I also finished the first season of Louie, which is sometimes awesome, and sometimes too intentionally shocking to be taken seriously, but never dull.
I also finally bit the bullet and watched James Cameron's Avatar. If you liked it, though, you don't want to hear my thoughts on it.
What have you seen?
Pledge Week continues with the always-exciting Third "Monday" Movie Day. I thought of it every day this month until it was time to put it up. Whoops.
