Oy, this has been one turd sandwich of a season, and now DJ Cuddles looks to be headed to the DL. Figures. My mother always told me that if I couldn't say something nice then I shouldn't say anything at all.

Culture Club: Check out one of our hometown graphic designers John M Vogt. I especially like his I heart MLPS t-shirts.

Put a Little Mustard on that Mustard

Crafting a delicious homemade mustard is marginally more involved than making pancakes from store-bought mix (if you must). The basic ingredients are simple - mustard seed and cool liquid. What you do with it after that is really up to your personal preference. But we'll get to modifications in a minute.

To make a basic, go-to mustard for service atop some toothsome encased meats, roasts, chicken, chops, in marinades, vinaigrettes, or in sauces, I use brown Canadian mustard seeds from a local spice purveyor. I'd suggest buying bags of seed instead of spice bottles because you're going to go through 5-10 oz of seed depending on how much mustard you're interested in making.

Pixel Perfect Memories: CDX

Release Date:  2006
System:  Flash
Developer:  Preloaded

You remember how most full-motion video games suck?  This is not one of them.

A marvelous Flash game produced by the BBC, CDX certainly uses the engine for all its worth.  You star as a prop collector who is down in Tunis when you break your legs in a motorcycle accident.  Suffering from retrograde amnesia and confined to a wheelchair, your only connection with the outside world from your tiny apartment is your computer (which thankfully has broadband) and your telephone.  The plot revolves around a dagger, one of the props you bought in your previous job; apparently, it is a rare artifact that some pretty important people would do anything to get their hands on.  Your job is to learn more about the dagger while saving yourown skin.

While the game takes only about two to three hours to complete, it is packed with so much atmosphere and ingenuity that I would recommend it to just about anyone.  Live actors are used, and they are mostly excellent, especially the antagonist in a brief but powerful role.  Puzzles are fun and fit seamlessly with the environment. And if you're at all a history buff, there is plenty of juicy information to whet your appetite. The only annoyances are a couple of pointless red herrings and an early arcade sequence that is quite boring. Thankfully, the game ends with an intense, deliciously smart arcade game that puts an exclamation point on this jam-packed adventure.

Harry Hooper (1887)
Hank Gowdy (1889)
Hal Woodeshick (1932)
Tony Bernazard (1956)
Cal Ripken (1960)
Tim Salmon (1968)
Nick Adenhart (1986)

No major league players with connections to the Minnesota Twins were born on this day.  We do come close, though, with Hal Woodeshick, who played for Washington in 1960, but then was chosen by the new Washington in the expansion draft in 1961.  We also come close with Reid Santos (1982), who pitched for Rochester in 2009 but did not make the big leagues.

Brian Wheat – Looking Alive

One of my best friends recently moved to Minneapolis.  In addition to his duties at a professional teacher of high school biology, he also plays songs. Once he finally sets up some gigs at Minneapolis you had better believe at least a couple of you are going to go. Or I am going to guilt the heck out of you in hopes of making you attend.
