Championship Series 10/14/12

Two more games to enjoy today. On the downside, Joe Buck enters the postseason.

Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees
Anibal Sanchez vs. Hiroki Kuroda

The Tigers are up one game, Jeter is broken and out, and Girardi has favored emotion over intelligence and is burying A-Rod. I got very close to cheering for the Yankees over the Tigers, but I'm finding that I just...can't. Amazingly, it's another early game for the Yankees.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants
Lance Lynn vs. Madison Bumgarner

The last two champions meet in the next CS for the first time in six decades, I read. Lance Lynn had 18 Wins this season and I'm fairly sure I've never heard of him. I'm not in love with either of these teams, but I like both of them enough to cheer them over the other clowns.

2012 MLB in USA Opener: Champions at Home Run Monstrosity

The visiting MLB champions are, of course, starting Kyle Lohse in game one. Remember him? Remember how much Gardy hated him? Now he has a ring, and so does Punto (who's now with the Sawks).

Miami (I'm not used to that yet) has Josh Johnson going. I've always been a big fan for no particular reason, and hope he's back from injury, though the Twins have done little to fill me with hope when a pitcher I like gets injured.

So, who's the first to give us a look at the home run thingy? I'll say Giancarlo Stanton.

Baseball, guys!

There are Gophers and Cardinals in the Garden

From the Repository:

For other teams, however, the NIT is perceived as a step up in a program climbing from mediocrity or obscurity, and the response is more enthusiastic.

Heh, yeah - that's us.

Wasn't sure if anyone wanted a game log for this momentous occasion but hey, the last 2 times the Gophers won the NIT (1993, 1998*) , they followed it up with a visit to March Madness the following season.**  I'll be late to the party but here's to a good turnout for the boys in Maroon and Gold.

7 Eastern, 6 Central Standard Time on the FourLetter.

*vacated!

**and those seasons (or at least the records of those seasons) don't count either!
