Summer Mix 2020

Okay, we might as well officially release this to the unwashed masses. Also, let's put this up to push Tommy off the front page for Rhu_Ru's sake.

Anyway, here are some things I said at the pre-release (which I've edited):

Some quick notes:

    • We had a lot of submitters, and a lot of you chose longer songs. After that, there were a lot of other songs that should be on there, so the mix ran a little long.
    • As such, for several reasons it just made more sense to split it into two parts. Each has a theme of sorts.
    • Downloadable files are available (first link). I know at least in iTunes, if you use the "Song Info" option on each track, go to sorting, and select "Remember playback position", it makes it more manageable to skip around the longer tracks.

Have at it. 2020 is a weird year, and this is appropriately a weird mix. I like it though.

Sadly, I haven't gotten around to breaking it into songs as promised. HOWEVER, to ease consumption a bit, I had the idea to release it as a podcast. This way you can walk around with it but don't need to worry about getting it into your library (though that's still an option).

I'm going to try to get this on more platforms but here is where the Summer Mix is available for now:

WGOM Summer Mix 2018 Nominations

All right good and gentle folk of of the Nation, it is once again time to toss in your nominations for this year's Summer Mix. The rules remains the same:

1. The theme is "Summer". You're free to interpret that as you'd like.
2. Put your nominations in a Spoiler box.
3. You may nominate up to 3 songs. Any further nominations will be ignored.
4. Unless we get an insane amount of nominations for some reason, everyone's first choice is automatically in. The rest of the mix will be filled out with the other nominations.

After that, we'll throw everything in a pot and let it simmer for a few weeks then release it upon an unsuspecting public.

WGOM SUMMER MIX 2016

Well, here we go folks. Was hoping to get this out by the 21st, but a busy schedule, houseguests, and travel put it on the back burner. That said, I've gone through this a number of times, and I think it's a pretty good mix, y'all. As with last time, "flow" was taken into account (with a tiny bit of theme thrown in), so management recommends you listen in order. Thanks to everyone for your input, and we'll see you back here next year.

Gossling – “Days Are Over”

Hey guys, it's Mags again. I'm gonna spin a couple more SXSW artists. I'm not gonna go crazy with it, just on a Saturday here and there. Because believe me, I could fill at least 3 weeks, but that seems a bit excessive, so just a few highlights.

This one is Gossling. I saw them at the Aussie BBQ, which featured exclusively bands from Australia. I picked them over the other band I really liked (Miami Horror) because I immediately developed a huge crush on the singer. Shallow? Probably. Am I sorry? Not in the slightest.

The songs they did at the BBQ were a little more electronic(?) than this one, which I felt suited her voice better.

WGOM Radio – The Dread Pirate and Mags talk soccer

This originally was intended to be a BKaC entry, but DP and I recorded on a Saturday morning while watching soccer, so everytime we tried to get on topic, something happened to drag us back off. Never the less, I think it's an enjoyable podcast. We've always said this is our neighborhood bar, and all this episode is is a recording of two dudes on some virtual barstools.

WGOM Radio – CarterHayes BKaC

CH

Welcome back to WGOM Radio. Our next episode is a discussion between CarterHayes and me, MagUidhir. I've already apologized to CH directly about the audio quality. We had a great discussion, but I feel like I let him down by not capturing his input very well. I obviously didn't set up the settings correctly after reinstalling everything on my new hard drive And now I apologize you, the listener, for the jarring transitions between speakers. I promise future episodes will be better. Come for the comparison between Mike Trout and Jason Tyner, stay for the rundown of the 1998 Royals roster.

To join us, email me at acm006 [at] [g]mail and we'll set up a time.
