I'm writing this to try to remind myself to watch the Golden State game tonight. 1) I always enjoy watching sporting history. 2) Being a Pacers fan in the 90s, I absolutely hated Jordan et al, as I blame them for Indiana's lack of titles (though Indiana was the only team to beat the '96 Bulls twice that season).

The apartment complex has finally sent us a letter about why it took so long to approve us (they couldn't find my credit history) despite me calling the background check team twice to explicitly explain this to apathetic dudes who assured me there was no problem ("hey, so I haven't used credit since 2004").

No problem, guys. I'm cool with white-knuckling my living situation because you can't be bothered to take a couple of notes.

I'm currently working my way through The Accidental City: Improvising New Orleans by Lawrence Powell, a history professor at Tulane. It's occasionally dry in its recounting of names, but the history of New Orleans as a city that kept itself as independent as possible from the various 17th and 18th century colonial powers is an interesting one. I'm almost up to the Louisiana Purchase.

On deck, I have Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War by Susan Southard, so I have a little mini theme of city-based historical books going on right now.
