2016 Game 37(!?) – Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers

Halfway through a six game road trip, the Twins take their first trip of the year to Motown. Finally stringing together 2 road wins for the first time this year (hell, two wins in a row anywhere this is relatively impressive), they look to keep the momentum going against a Tigers team that's also no great shakes. Of course, they swept the Twins in Minnesota a couple weeks back, so I should probably stop flapping my gums.

Making it 3 in a row will be no easy task as the Twins will have to go through Jordan Zimmerman to do it. Other than some tough assignments against Hamels and Scherzer, Zimmerman has been outstanding this year. Twins will send out Berrios, who can hopefully put together a few more pieces at the major league level.

2016 Game #36: Minnesota Targets (9-26) at Cleveland Progressives (17-16)

First pitch: 12:10 CDT

Beat the drum and hold the phone
The sun came out today
We're born again
There's new grass on the field

I've always tried to be optimistic, but my choice of rooting interests often makes that incompatible with reality. For the first time in their last 9 attempts, the Twins won a game of baseball yesterday. And we need to celebrate that. The Buddha tells us the root of suffering is desire. The Twins losing so frequently drives me crazy because I want them to win. It's the wanting that causes the suffering, not the losing. So I've swapped my optimism for appreciation. I live in a major league city and get to watch a major league team try to play baseball almost every day. I can attend a home game anytime I have the hankering. That's way more than I had growing up. So maybe we're looking at 100 losses this season. You can't say the boys aren't finding interesting ways to lose.

Tyler Duffy and Trevor Bauer on the mound today.

Play ball!

Game 34. What is baseball?

The Twins are 1-11 in their last 12 games. Yuck. The Twins are on a 7 game losing streak and thats not even their longest losing streak of the season. Yuck. The Twins are 5 wins behind the second worst team in the American League. yuck. Why am I still watching? Well I'd rather be golfing but its 40 degrees outside and the river has flooded wiping out some holes. So Its brutal baseball. Yuck.

Game 32: Orioles at Minnesota Twins

IT RAINED FOR four years, eleven months, and two days. There were periods of drizzle during which everyone put on his full dress and a convalescent look to celebrate the clearing, but the people soon grew accustomed to interpret the pauses as a sign of redoubled rain…  The worst part was that the rain was affecting everything and the driest of machines would have flowers popping out among their gears if they were not oiled every three days, and the threads in brocades rusted, and wet clothing would break out in a rash of saffron-colored moss. The air was so damp that fish could have come in through the doors and swum out the windows, floating through the atmosphere in the rooms.  -- Dave St. Peter channeling Gabriel Garcia Marquez

O.k.  Maybe it’s not that bad, but another rainy day must mean another Twin game at Target Field.  Jose Berrios on the mound and maybe Molitor has Mauer batting lead off again.  First pitch at 7:10p. I think it’s time to win a game again and appease the Titans (Puckett and Killebrew) whose tears have rained down upon us these last few days.

Game 30: twins @ white sox

Well, that was a fun week...

The 1-4 record (in which our opponents  outscored us by 17 runs) was bad enough, but between Pohlad's comments ('don't blame us! blame this ragtag crew we've assembled!') and the rampant shuffling of deck chairs, it would be easy to lose faith.

That's not what we're going to do, though. The team is on pace for 117 losses, but I don't think this is one of the  worst teams in modern baseball history, so pretty soon, we'll see #itshappening everywhere, and we will have to remind ourselves that no... it's not happening yet. Soon, though. Probably. I'm sure there will be a winning streak around the bend somewhere.

It probably won't start today, though.

2016 Game 28: Twins at Astros

Phil Hughes vs. Mike Fiers.

I haven't gotten to see an inning of this series yet, as the last few days have been all about moving, unpacking and going through the deepest certification process I've ever been a part of at work. On the upside, the baseball teams I'm missing have a combined 17 wins, so whatever.

Internet will be installed tomorrow and I'll be able to enjoy, or whatever, the team then. Bring it home, dudes.
