Monday

Escogido 8, Aguilas 3 in Aguilas.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI for Escogido.  Luis Perdomo allowed a run on two hits in 1.1 innings for Aguilas.

Cibao 9, Licey 1 in Licey.  Alexi Casilla was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI for Cibao.

Tuesday

Cibao 7, Aguilas 2 in Cibao.  Alexi Casilla was 0-for-5 with an RBI for Cibao.  Wilkin Ramirez was used as a defensive replacement and hit a solo home run in his only at-bat for Cibao.  Luis Perdomo gave up a hit but no runs in a third of an inning for Aguilas.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Tuesday

Caguas 5, Ponce 4 in Caguas.  Angel Morales was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run for Ponce.

Carolina 2, Mayaguez 0 in Mayaguez.  Daniel Ortiz was 0-for-3 for Mayaguez.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout for Mayaguez.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Monday

Anzoategui 5, Magallanes 2 in Anzoategui.  Lester Oliveros allowed a run on a hit in 1.1 innings for Anzoategui.

Tuesday

Anzoategui 3, Magallanes 0 in Anzoategui.  Lester Oliveros struck out the only man he faced for Anzoategui.  Pedro Guerra struck out three in two shutout innings for Magallanes, giving up a hit and a walk.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Saturday

Canberra 6, Brisbane 4 in Brisbane.  Rory Rhodes was 0-for-4 for Brisbane.

Melbourne 12, Sydney 5 in Melbourne.  Todd Van Steensel struck out six in four innings, but gave up two runs on two hits (a pair of solo home runs) for Sydney.

Ernest Lanigan was the nephew of the Spink brothers who founded The Sporting News and worked for the publication from the time he was 15.  Among other things, he compiled baseball's first encyclopedia, published in 1922, and served as curator, historian, and director of the Hall of Fame from 1946 until his death in 1962.
