It's Jackie Robinson day. It took them too long to make it happen, but better late than never. The game was made infinitely better by Jackie, and the whole "everybody wears 42"thing is a great way to commemorate him.
The Twins sort of need another hot steak. I know it's asinine to complain about their record after last year, but they are 2-4 over their last six
Jim Creighton (1841)
Ed Abbaticchio (1877)
Ed Bailey (1931)
Willie Davis (1940)
Ted Sizemore (1945)
Jeromy Burnitz (1969)
Milton Bradley (1978)
John Danks (1985)
Jim Creighton was a star pitcher from 1857-1862, before the National League was created. He passed away from a ruptured hernia in 1862 at the age of twenty-one.
Until Henry Aaron came along, Ed Abbaticchio held the “first in the alphabet” record.
There do not appear to be any major league players with connections to the Minnesota Twins born on this day.
Could there be a weather delay? The radar as of this writing looks like its possible.
The Twins are 6-3 and tied for first place! Adalberto Mejia starts for the locals. I saw him in spring training a few times (on FSN, not in Florida) he looked impressive, throwing strikes and working quick. His first regular season start was not as impressive only getting 5 outs. Maybe it was first start of the regular season jitters.
The Sox are 4-4 and in 3rd place. Dylan Covey start and it his major league debut.
I have been rewatching Star Trek Deep Space Nine and found my favorite Worf joke ever (Of course Worf was a character in Next Generation too) It happened in an episode where the crew plays a baseball game against the Vulcans in the Holosuite and its one of my favorite non serious episode of any Star Trek series. (Most Star Trek series are available to binge on Netflix)
I've been listening to a lot of my old albums lately. Meaning the things I listened to in high school and college. My physical collection is largely packed up and put away right now, so as I'm inspired to pick an old album I just pull it up on youtube. That's handy.
Anyway, lots of them have not held up as well as I thought they might (The Love Below was disappointing. Still kind of a fun concept album, but the execution is just far too inconsistent.) Others were even better than I remembered (Chumbawumba's WYSIWYG is fan-freaking-tastic.). Lots were nicely familiar (BNL's albums), and well worth the time.
Anyway, for this week maybe we can talk old albums. What's something you haven't dusted off in ages that you used to listen to regularly?
That Wild game killed me. Pretty sure I woke up the tenants in the surrounding hotel rooms when they tied it up. Worse, they were replaying the game in the airport lounge on my way out yesterday. Had to watch all the missed chances in OT. Tonight will be better... 🤞🤞🤞
