2012 Game Logs: Game 66 Twins @ Pirates

Scott "Possibly Maybe A Future All-Star" Diamond

Kevin "Probably Never An All-Star" Correia

In the weeks approaching the trading deadline I am going to take a look at negotiations that Terry Ryan will be taking part in an attempt to make the Twins better for the future. This week, Terry Ryan makes a stop in Vegas.

Next week: Trade talks heat up and Terry Ryan looks for shop credit.

Game 65: Brewers 4, Twins 5

In a 15 inning game, Swizzlesnacks gets the "W". DSpan with the walk off RBI single.

35 hits between the 2 teams, only 6 extra base hits.
Twins with 20 hits, and Span had the only extra base hit with a double.
Twins relievers pitched 9 shutout innings.
Twins pitchers walked 5 and struck out only 7.

"I was just trying to get us to dinner," Span said, smiling.

"Jeff Gray was the pitcher of the game as far as I'm concerned," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.

"I'm pretty stiff," he said. "It's good timing for the off day tomorrow." Joe Mauer

Willinghammer had a rough day going 0-6 with 4 K's. He reached base a single time by way of a BB. As Padre would say, "Days like that are bound to happen!"

That is all.

2012 Game 65: Brewers at Twins

We finish our set with the Brewers today after a couple of rough games (I think; I typed this in the middle of yesterday's game and just assumed we weren't coming back. I'm cynical like that).

Alright, let's get excited about...

Greinke versus Blackburn?! Okay, so let's get excited about something that's not baseball-related. Suggestions: Beer, the NBA Finals, Turbo Survivor at CdL, stamp collecting, classic episodes of "Mama's Family," Sid and Marty Krofft puppets, smokeless tobacco and Christmas.

I'll actually get to see one of my Sunday games since I'm closing today, but I'll keep my optimism in check on this one. Still, there's always the threat of Trevor Plouffe hanging over opposing pitchers.

Go Twins.

Game 65: RE-RUN

I DVR'd this and tried watching it, but I got a rerun of that game where Plouffe hit no home runs and Hendriks didn't pitch very well. I think I'm going to call DirectTV about this box, this is like the tenth time it's shown me this game instead of the one I was trying to watch.

Anyone want to fill me in on what happened?

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Irish Celebration

Macklemore loses a little bit without a crowd, but I've caught him four times in the last eighteen months and watched him go from the Seventh Street Entry to the mainstage at Soundset.  If you're interested and want to see a baseball tie-in, search for his song "My Oh My."

Game 64: Twins and Brewers

The WGOM would like to extend a hearty "welcome back" to Liam Hendriks. May you have a Plouffeian turnaround.

Speaking of Babe Plouffe, some of Thome's at bats in 2010 are the only times I can remember being as sure that a particular Twins hitter was going to hit a home run as I was that Plouffe was going to hit one in the 6th inning of last night's game. It's been a joy to watch for everyone - except, I'd imagine, for Danny Valencia, who will now almost certainly get traded at absolute bottom dollar, angering Linds to no end.

The aforementioned Liam Hendricks gets the start today. He was doing quite well in AAA, so hopefully that bodes well for MLB, rather than AAAA.

Mike Fiers gets the ball for the Brewers. This is only his 4th big league start, but in the minors, he seemed to combine strikeouts with good control and very few home runs. Yesterday was his birthday, so going by Plouffe's rampage yesterday, we probably just dodged a bullet there.

Go Twins!

2012 Game 63: Milwaukee Brewers at Minnesota Twins

Yovani Gallardo
v
Francisco Liriano

Time to start another series winning streak. The Royals just swept the Brewers, so surely the Twins can take at least two out of three, right? The Pirates are next and although they have a winning record, B-R's SRS system rates them a -0.5, so there's another winnable series. Just burst the bubble that needs to be burst before something drastic happens, like the Pirates making it to the postseason. Finally, uh, let me check the master schedule I have saved to keep the sidebar updated... Right, Cincinnati is next and they're actually kind of good. That's okay, just take things one game at a time and work your way up to a bit of a challenge. Because then it's the White Sox next and it's always fun to beat them.
