Game 83: Orioles 2, Twins 4 (in 10 innings)

Brian Dozier (.260/.332/.517) didn't make the MLB All-Star game off of the fan's ballot, but those of us in Minnesota know what he's meant to the team this year. Last night, with 1 on and 1 out in the 10th inning, he hit his 17th homer to left to walk-off the Orioles, helped the Twins to move to 44-39 (2nd WC spot), scored his league-leading* 63rd run, 41st & 42nd RBI (third place on the Twins roster) and improved his team-leading OPS to .849. Among Second Basemen in the American League, only Jason Kipnis has had a better offensive first half (.340/.416/.503). I'm hoping fans of Major League Baseball make the right choice and Dozier is voted in. It'll be tough, three of the other 4 options are from NY, Bos & Chi-town, and the Royals fans have shown their ability to get out the vote (Moustakas is the 4th option).

Vote here if you'd like to see Brian accompany Glen Perkins to Cincinnati.

Every run last night was scored via the long ball: Solo home runs from Manny Machado & Adam Jones for the Orioles and Torii Hunter & Aaron Hicks for the Twins, followed by the 2-Run shot from Dozier.

Trevor May, pitching out of the bullpen due to the reinstatement of Ervin Santana, racked up the win after throwing 16 pitches in the top-half of the 10th, giving up 1 hit and striking out 1. Tommy Hunter, in a similar spot for Baltimore, took the loss.

2015 Game 63: Minnesota Twins at Saint Louis Cardinals

The Twins head back out on the road after a 1-5 homestand that held such comical moments as the only 3-triple, 1-run inning in the expansion era. After an expectation defying May, June has tempered the excitement of the optimists and confirmed the expectations of the pessimists. After the first real spark of interest in their team in years, it was enough to cause the front office to consider something desperate!

Okay, well, maybe not that dramatic. The latest top prospect to get the call, Byron Buxton joined the team yesterday and played a role, if not a significant or flashy one. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I don't believe Buxton was setting any worlds on fire in AA so far this year. Still, at this point, I'm fine with a little shake up. I'm assuming the job is his to lose so far, so lets hope he sticks for awhile.

The Twins open a mini-interleague series in Budweiser territory tonight. This will be Minnesota's first visit to the Mound City since 2009. May was the tough luck loser last time and has been pitching well of late. He'll take on a tough assignment tonight against the league's best team. Lackey's last start was not a good, and he looks to rebound from a 10-run drubbing.

After his iijection and suspensiion, Hunter will join the rejoin the team today, Also, a happy birthday to to Plouffe! and Nunez. Hopefully they can spread a little birthday love around.

Game 37: Rays @ Twins

Trevor May takes the mound for the Twins today. I'm hoping he has a "progression to the mean" type start, so that his ERA can eke its way out of the abyss, and we can start talking about what to do with Nolasco (and Pelfrey, once he completes his transformation back into a pumpkin). Those seem like better places to trim rather than looking for excuses to not find out exactly what we have in May. If he's a reliever, that's fine, but it would be nice to actually, you know, find out for sure.

The Rays, meanwhile, are sending out Alex Colome, a pitcher who seems to be running low on chances to really catch on with the team.

I'm sort of expecting a bloodbath. Fearful prediction: Twins 8, Rays 2. May pitches like he ought to, and the top of the lineup comes through.
