Mrs. Buffalo is currently watching Cupcake Wars. How many different ways can you possibly make cupcakes? Let's take a look, I see 8 of them:
1:Trout- This dude only has 5 career home runs. That is only 1 more than Drew Butera. What a cupcake.
2:Callaspo -Career slugging percentage? .384 For a frame of reference, Tom Prince, in his two seasons with the Twins, had a .371 slugging percentage.
3:Pujols - A .265 OBP this season? You know who can beat that? Chris Heintz and his career mark of .268
4:Hunter- This guy is a bozo. I am not even going to bother looking at his numbers.
5:Trumbo- A career .294 OBP for the LAAA slugger. You know who can beat that, besides most people? How about Dave Engle with a career .316 mark.
6:Kendrick- The second baseman has a 87 OPS+ this season. This looks suspiciously like Tim Laudner's career mark of 84.
7:Wells- The only thing worse that Veron Wells this season? Vernon Wells last season. His numbers compare unfavorably to Pat Borders' season with the Twins.
8:Aybar- This season with the Angels Aybar has one stolen base. This is exactly as many as Jeff Reed had in his career with the Twins. Dude was a catcher. What a cupcake this Aybar is!
9:Iannetta- This guy is actually having a hell of a season.
LAAAAA is hitting like a bunch of back up catchers. What a joke.
It’s déjà vu all over again as the Twins kick off a six-game left coast road trip, this time as a battle of basement-dwellers. When last we witnessed our intrepid team taking on the Cherubim and Seraphim, it was the Twins home opener series. It was also the last series win for the Twins this year. So here’s to hoping that this time around the outcome is the same or even better. Because while we’ve been swept three times already, the Twins have yet to sweep a series against a competitor this year. Now, we all know the Twins have sucked badly since winning the division in 2010. But against the Angels in that timeframe they’ve fared fairly well with a 10-9 record. Mauer especially has done well against the Angels, batting .335 with eight doubles, seven home runs, 32 RBI and 25 walks in 50 career games against the Angels. We suck worse against some other teams is all I'm saying.
ON THE HILL
Nick Blackburn (0-2, 7.53 ERA, 4.48 FIP, 3.98 xFIP)
Finally, I get to write a recap about a TWINS WIN! Willingham was a homerun short of the cycle with 2 RBI and Danny V was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles and 2 RBI. Doumit added 2 RBI of his own and the Twins had 5 extra base hits altogether. Jason Marquis had a "quality start" going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. Burton and Perkins each pitched a scoreless (though nail-biting) inning and Dicus gave up 1 run on 2 hits and a walk before securing the win.
Game time sneaking up, and I don't see a Game Log. This one will have to do unless/until it gets replaced by an official log. In the meantime, hopefully the Twins put in more of an effort than I have.
This is a game log. It is a place for you to share concise, often humorous thoughts while you watch the Twins lose.
It is customary for each game log to have an introduction, wherein that log's author discusses various things about the team. I am currently suffering from a profound lack of motivation in this regard. Therefore, while the log will still be created, you are going to have to pretend that I said something profound like "Oh, that Joe Mauer guy is pretty good, right?" or "This is all Casilla's fault".
Jason Marquis - (1-0, 7.15 ERA, 6.11 FIP, 3.75 xFIP) will pitch for the Twins. Bruce Chen - (0-2, 2.52 ERA, 3.61 FIP, 3.92 xFIP) will pitch for the Royals.
Everett Teaford is making a spot start for Danny Duffy. He recently transitioned from a starter to a reliever in the minors and while it helped, he does turn 28 next year. Today, he's doing a Swarzak. Except Swarzak is a bad starter in the majors and Teaford was a bad starter in the minors. The Twins have a chance!
Twins 6, BoSox 7
WP: Buchholz (2-1, 8.87 ERA)
LP: Hendriks (0-1, 6.89 ERA)
Save(!): Aceves (4) Fangraphs doesn't care that Parmelee got beaned in the head.
I'm sure that you can find a mlb video of Pedroia nearly hitting the cycle somewhere.
4 dudes are tied at the top of the King of the Savers race. It's too early to pick a favorite, but this Johnson is pitching out of his mind in Bodymore.
My mom always told me if I can't say something nice I shouldn't say anything at all.

Culture Club: I stumbled onto ArtOrg's website when looking for a used Fuchs and Lang litho press on line. After a little digging around I found that they're a community based printshop with a focus on education and collaboration. They offer classes for beginners through advanced adults and kids. ArtOrg's projects are often ambitious in scale, sometimes incorporating over 1000 individual artist's work to create a single mural. Artorg also publishes the work of regional and national artists. The sale of prints from their shop supports their community outreach. The next time you're in Northfield stop in and see what's happening.
